Product description

Tribiotic is a drug in the form of an ointment for topical application to the skin. The active substances in the preparation are three broad-spectrum antibiotics: bacitracin, neomycin and polymyxin B. The ointment is used to prevent the development of bacterial infections in the case of minor wounds, scratches and burns.

Bacitracin is a peptide antibiotic, active mainly against Gram-positive bacteria, including staphylococci, streptococci, Clostridium species (spp.), Corynebacterium spp and selected Gram-negative bacteria: Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis, Fusobacterium spp., Haemophilus influenzae. Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with a bactericidal effect primarily on Gram-negative bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis, Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp., Prote us mirabilis, Proteus indolododatni, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Polymyxin B is a polypeptide antibiotic that is also bactericidal against Gram-negative bacteria, but has no effect on Gram-positive bacteria.

Tribiotic ointment can be used externally in adults and children over 12 years of age as protection against bacterial infection that may result from skin injury.

Indications

Preventing the development of bacterial infections in case of minor wounds, scrapes and burns.

Composition

1 g of ointment contains:

  • active substances: zinc bacitracin (Bacitracinum zincum) 400 IU, neomycin sulphate (Neomycini sulfas) 5 mg, polymyxin B sulphate (Polymyxini B sulfas) 5000 IU,
  • excipients: white petrolatum .

Action

Antibacterial.

Dosage

  • Adults and children over 12 years: up to 3 times a day.
  • A small amount of ointment should be applied to the affected area of the skin after cleaning and drying it.
  • If necessary, a sterile protective dressing may be applied after application of the preparation.

The ointment should not be used for more than 7 days.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to zinc bacitracin, neomycin sulphate, polymyxin B sulphate or to any of the excipients.
  • Do not use in children under 12 years of age due to the risk of nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity.

Storage

Store below 25°C in a tightly closed container to protect against moisture.

Side effects

  • Ear and labyrinth disorders (ototoxicity).
  • Infections and infestations (infection with resistant strains of bacteria or yeast Candida).
  • Immune system disorders (general symptoms of hypersensitivity and local symptoms, such as rash, itching, irritation symptoms).

interactions

  • If the active substances are absorbed after applying the ointment to a large area of skin or damaged skin, interactions with other drugs used at the same time may occur.
  • Concomitant use with oral neomycin may increase the risk of hypersensitivity.
  • Do not use the preparation simultaneously with drugs that may damage the kidneys and hearing, including strong diuretics.
  • When neomycin is applied to the skin at the same time, a cross-allergic reaction to other aminoglycoside antibiotics may occur.
  • When oral or topical aminoglycoside antibiotics or other drugs with potential nephro- or neurotoxicity are used concomitantly, additive adverse reactions may occur.

Warnings and precautions

  • The ointment should not be used on mucous membranes, large areas of damaged skin, deep or puncture wounds, severe burns, eyes, oozing skin lesions.
  • The use of the drug should be discontinued if there is no improvement, in the event of worsening of symptoms or symptoms of hypersensitivity, including skin, such as rash, itching, signs of irritation.
  • In the case of severe allergic reactions, stop using the preparation immediately.
  • Patients who are allergic to any aminoglycoside or polymyxin antibiotic may be allergic to other aminoglycosides or polymyxins; in the event of severe allergic reactions, treatment should be discontinued.
  • Applying the drug to large areas of damaged skin can cause hearing loss, kidney damage and neurotoxic symptoms.
  • The preparation should be used with particular caution in patients with impaired renal function or hearing impairment.
  • There is a greater risk of nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity in patients with impaired renal function.
  • Tribiotic may intensify the effect of concomitantly used nephro- or ototoxic preparations.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • The active substances of the preparation, in particular neomycin, may have harmful pharmacological effects on the course of pregnancy or fetal development.
